What do you mean, like are we looked down upon? I suppose it matter the community. I guess there are still some rural areas that might care. Generally though, no one cares if your a single parent or not.

Much better than how they treated in countries like say, India.
In the western world, the society is highly cultured, civilzed that single parents are a respected lot - first, they have a high respect for their status, are independent. Next their community is not harsh to them. They are an accepted lot, and are free to seek other partners. Third, social infrastructure, government support is good
It is difficult to find a single father in India though... if there are single fathers out there, i apologise. But if there is a single mother, life is made difficult for her from all corners. If the girl has supporting family, she is releived in one way - she will not be abused by peverted men. Ofcourse, she may lose a lot of independence, and may not be able to meet other men - but that is not an issue in the Indian society, is it? Women are conditioned enough - that a single mother will not even consider her happiness - she will dedicate her life for her children and they become her lifes cause -
And once in a while we do see some single mothers marrying to make a family...

Normal.
The divorce rate started climbing in the 1960's and peaked untill just recently. Now, like dual parents, there is social classes within the single parent. There are single parents with joint custody, and have high incomes ... single parents who are middle class ... and single parents who are in the poverty level.
However, with the higher incomes, we are seeing the "Custody Battles" ugly, and harmful to childreen. Publicly, Alex Baldwin and former wife Kim Bassinger have been arguing over thier child in the ugliest ways know to child rearing ... they're both butt-rich ... but the poor kid is going to be scrambled eggs because of the battles she's seen.

Their social status of people in the more sophisticated areas of the Western Nations, the big cities etc., is usually NOT dependant on their marriage status with or without children.

Single parents are as vapidly respected as the rest. Of course not all single parents live with their children they are thrown out of their homes by the courts. These are called fathers.
