Well, my school finally has a Drama Club up and running; and our first show already planned for next year; but we already know that the school will suply us with little to help our cause. We've been in and out of meetings all week, trying to think of good ideas. We have a bake sale this weekend, and we've turned down the car wash because of trampy girls at our school wearing as little clothes as possible to the car wash.

So I was wondering if you guys could help us with some ideas to raise money??

Maybe you could ask some of the local businesses if they would sponsor a part of the production in return for kind words of thanks and an advertisement in the program. Maybe some of the parents of your drama club members could help with that.

I don't know where you are, but you could also all go to a shopping mall and do some "street artist" type things. For example, be a statue that moves when someone drops some money into the bank. Be sure to have a big sign stating what your cause is so that people know it is for a good cause. You'd be amazed at how much money you can raise this way.

I wish you all luck!

The BEST way to raise money is sitting outside of a grocery store or some place similar. You can raise about $100 an hour if you have a nice set up. Choose a place that has only one entrance/exit and have a table set up with something to "give away". For the most part, people will just donate and not even bother taking what you have. Go to BJs or Costco and get a huge box of individual wrapped cookies or candies and just ask for "donations". I PROMISE you this will work.

Good Luck!

As people have been saying, selling space in your programs for ads is a great way to make money for the production. Anything locally owned- salons, car dealers, local restaurants, small stores, etc. You could also try holding a rummage sale- get people (probably drama club members and their families, mostly) to donate things to sell, garage sale style. If you can get it, hand-crafted things (like hand-knit scarves, quilts, hand-made jewlery, etc.) would also be good. See if the school would let your club use the gym on a Saturday for it. Good luck!

For everything that you do, benefit performances included, you sell program ads. Every high school does it and it make money because all you do is pay for making the programs and even then you may be able to get that donated in exchange for ad space!

Every fall my daughter's school does a performace of musical numbers as a benefit performance. Theater students perform and serve desserts and inbetween musical numbers donated items and services are auctioned off to the highest bidder. Students volunteer things like singing at a holiday party (a quartet of singers and a piano player perofrming for an hour were sold for $500!), some students volunteer 2 hours of gift wrapping services, someone was able to get a framed signed posted of the braodway cast of a couple of shows, local business donated baskets of goods or gift certificates... plus everyone coming to the event had to buy a ticket. The ticket price includes a bidding paddle and dessert.

When I was in high school, we had something called Senior Servant Day. We auctioned off the seniors to the highest bidder to raise money as well. In turn, that senior had to spend the day from 7 am to 7 pm doing the bidding of the winner (within reason) Picking up that person for school, wearing whatever the 'master' wanted them to wear including the prerequisite labeling by the 'master' (usually the owner would make the servant wear a shirt laden with writing showing all who 'owned' them for the day, carrying their books, standing in line for their lunch, singing or dancing for them at will, etc. All with the blessing of their teachers of course because they would have to get to class late and leave early but only for that day, but you get the idea?

Good luck!

Sell space on your programs, an eight of a page all the way to a full page. Make a full page ad anywhere from $100 - $200, and a business card section anywhere from $25 - $50.

Insurance agents, car dealers, nail and hair salons, a lot of these places will pay to have their business card put in your program. (Not the card itself, but a photocopy of the cards, arranged as neatly as possible)

Some food chains, like Subway, who is usually great, get subsidies for helping school activities.

Program space is a great way to raise money!
