If the account is paid off, write "Cancel" on your next statement, and include the cut up credit card. Or write a letter of your own. KEEP COPIES. Date everything!!!

I recommend you do not close a cc account. It will affect negatively affect your credit, even if you requested it. Keep it open, call the cc company to lower your credit limit and charge something ($10, $20, $30) from time to time and pay it off in the next billing cycle. Doing this will increse credit scores.

I called the company and also wrote a letter stating that I was closing the account. I would try to call back and ask to speak to a manager if there are any problems. Good Luck!

Call to cancel the card and don't fall for their BS. If you draw a hard line, they won't be able to make you keep the account open as long as there isn't a balance on the card.

Payoff account and call the card company. They will key it in and should send you a letter showing that the account has been closed. It is very simple, I closed one just last month.

I would pay the balance, cut up the card and then write a letter to the company.

You should be able to close it with a phone call. If they continue to try to convince you to keep it open, speak sternly, ask for their name and then ask to speak to a manager. You may have to ask more than once but don't continue to answer their questions. Keep saying, "I'd like to speak to a manager please" They may try to make you feel badly for asking but if they'd do what you asked in the first place, you wouldn't be asking to speak to management. It's sad that you have to be mean before they will listen, but that's pretty much what it takes now.

Yes, put it in writing. And ALWAYS, keep a copy, for later. Document any and every phone conversation with date, time, and the name or employee number of the person with whom you spoke, as well.
This will enable you to force the company to cease charging any fees if your balance is paid in full.

I've always just cancelled over the phone. Just tell him you want to cancel and you do not want to listen to his sales pitch.
