Me would be Dallas Clark. He helps the COlts so much and opens the passing lanes for Peyton Manning. In the playoffs he had 317 yards recieving and in season had 367 yds and 4 TDs.

Unfortunately I would have to say Antonio Gates! Not only is he a great athlete and a natural reciever, but he has turned into a very credible blocker. I agree with you that Clark is outstanding and is really clutch, but in the overall he tends to not show up at times. He would probably come in fourth behind Heap, Gonzalez, and is just a step ahead of Shockley.

Its gotta be the one who is already the greatest Tight End of all time: Tony Gonzlez. People say that his nubers have not been as good these past few years, but when you become a blocking TE for part of the season, that is gonna happen. Yes, Gates and Crumpler and Clark are great. I'd say Clark is the most underrated, but not the best. Another thing, Gonzalez has been the Chiefs #1 "reciever." Without a true #1 to take the pressure off of him, he has still managed to accumulate the most touchdown receptions for a TE and will enter the HOF as the best who ever played the position.

Dallas Clark, not even close. The answer is Tony Gonzales. Last year 73 receptions for 900 yards. And thats with him fighting a double team on almost every play. He's also probably the best run blocking TE in the league.

I know you might all think I'm crazy considering your answers, but I would say Jeremy Shockey. I was watching their wild card game (not a Giants fan, or any other at that. Just love football.) and I saw Shockey make a catch, turn around, run someone over, get his helmet knocked off, and keep running until he was tackled. I was amazed; you had to see it. I choose Shockey because I don't think that great players should be solely based on their stats, but also their heart and determination that they put in the game.

Antonio Gates, head and shoulders above Dallas Clark. Not even close on this one.

It has to be gates, he has opened up a new era for the tightend. Vernon Davis in 2 years will be the best TE in the league.

Just because he plays for your favorite team, doesn't mean he's the best player at that, or any position.

Antonio Gates is probably the best tight end in the league right now.
Followed by Tony Gonzolez.
