Landing on the moon in 1969- what effect did it have on the future?

Not as much of an effect as I was hoping. It was more like a stunt. Six landings and then done with that. Did the stunt, proved we could do it, and then just gave up. But things are starting to get active again. NASA has plans for a new vehicle, China is now flying in people in space, other nations are launching unmanned probes beyond Earth orbit, and private companies are starting to develop an independent space capability. The next 10 years would be more interesting than the last 30!

Scientifically:
We learned a lot about our moon and it's composition by going there. The advances and knowledge we gained could one day help us colonize the Moon.

Politically:
The moon landing marked the end of the space race between the U.S. and the USSR with the U.S as the clear winner. Though it didn't bring about the end of the cold war, it certainly was a huge morale boost to the people of the free world.

Exploration:
The moon landing was the first time man set foot on a body other than Earth. It made us realize that there could be great things in our future and that one day, we might be able to venture further and discover more.

Man had no effect on the moon. It was just something to do, to prove to the Russians and the rest of the world that we could do it. We learned a lot about the moon and many new advances in technology happened because of our space explorations. I am looking forward to the real Star Ship that will take us to a new planet and a new solar system. I am hoping we develop one before I reach the end of my days.
