Let's address a few cherished myths from the MS Fanboy club.
Mac don't get hacked or get viruses because it is an inherently more secure operating system based on Darwin Unix. Market share has nothing to do with it. Writing malware for a Mac has become something of the holy grail with the bad guys, and they haven't succeeded once, and believe me, they try. You may have read about contests aimed at hacking a Mac. In every one of them, they had to change the rules of the contest to make it artificially EASIER for the hacker to get into the Mac, because no one was getting it done. There are NO viruses for Macs. The stories are just that, fictional stories.
Macs are good at graphics and media because they are better systems. It takes serious computer capability to do that kind of work. Business and financial applications don't even get a Mac breathing hard.
Apple does NOT make all the software for Macs. They make the operating system, the iLife suite (bundled with Macs), and a couple of others. I use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro), MS Office (Word, Excel, etc), and a smattering of other apps for my work. It is true you can't walk into Best Buy and find Mac Apps, but you can go into Fry's, CompUSA, and of course any Apple Store. Mac apps are available online by the thousands.
I have the same apps at home, plus a few dozen games, including the best sellers.
They're very easy to upgrade, and come with pretty good hardware out of the box. The kind of set-up most PCs upgrade to. If you were to configure a Dell to the same specs as an iMac or MacPro, and add comparable software that Apple includes, that Dell would cost a little more than the Mac. You get what you pay for.
Peripherals are plug and play, and yes, Mac's come with multi-function mice now.
Macs can have multiple operating systems loaded. You can be running in native OSX, and run windowze through parallels (we have one at work doing this) so we can used the ONE PC app we need, that isn't available for a Mac (Publisher).
I've used both systems. Windowze is clunky and bloated by comparison. A pain in the cyber-butt.
The next Mac OS, OS 10.5 "Leopard" will be out this fall. Apple moved all of their software engineers over to the iPhone project to get it out in June.
Apple innovates.
MS Imitates.

The "mac vs. pc" debate has been going on since the advent of both. Honestly, macs are FAR too expensive for their performance. People constantly claim how "virus free", "crash proof", and "fast" they are. My high school has a contract with Apple and therefore must use Mac OS, so I've been using macs for about 6 years now. Macs crash/freeze MORE OFTEN than any PC I've been on. Software, in the eyes of a developer, is initially targetted to a PC-based market, with macs simply being an afterthought. This means that FAR more software is available for a PC - especially because amature developers shoot for the PC about 90% of the time. Another thing is that if you intend to use the computer for gaming at all, an Apple is NOT a feasible option. Apples are virtually unupgradeable in their cute little form factors, so you either drop $500 for them to put in a $100 graphics card or just suffer without it. Their only saving grace is that they've finally converted to Intel-based CPU's, so they can run Windows more or less - but why not just buy a PC for a HELL of a lot less money in the first place? You could net yourself a very powerful PC for about $500 from somewhere like http://www.newegg.com/ or http://www.tigerdirect.com/ and just save yourself the trouble.

I have a mac and a PC. There is no simple answer to this as both OS have become so well developed over the past few years, (both have their perks which I'm sure you'v heard 1million times.) However it is important to look through some of the exagerations each OS makes:
Mac - no viruses - untrue. Although a small amount of people own macs (compared to PC's) more people are starting to make the swap. Meaning the odd virus can sometimes be released, (Norton has been released for mac) Mac does try to resolve this with it's updates
Macs don't crash as much as PC - Untrue - I spend more time getting my macs IT'd rather then my PC, however I am happy to as they are so much more easier to use for media apps then PC
Windows is great!! - untrue - Windows still uses a registry which can get it's self into a bit of a mess. Plus Windows is more like a very large program rather then an OS because of this uses one hell of a lot of your PC's resources.!

Macs make it easier for people who take pictures and like to edit video and stuff like that. If you ever wanted to UPGRADE a mac, its not easy.
If you do heavy computing, a PC is the best way to go.
PC are easily upgradeable. Have a wider variety of software available. Easier/Cheaper maintenance. Over all you have more options available with a PC :).

mac, because of simple reliability, and most viruses do not affect a mac, pc's also come with a bunch of useless software, and trial ware, that if deleted, will cause a lot of problems.
