This printers works OK when I print something from a document but not when I try and do something from the 'HP Director'. When I try to either scan pictures or documents or copy something it doesn't respond.
It is not consistent- some times it comes up with 'there is a problem and it needs to close'. There is a lot of technical info given. It does occasionally copy something, it also quite regularly simply crashes (not the whole computer) and also changes (mainly removes) the colour on the screen.
I have used the driver discs to no avail. The troubleshooting comes up with a problem with the connection between the printer and computer.
Any suggestions?

I went to the HP site and downloaded a 'diagnostic' program (which looks as if it was for this very problem) and the problem is sorted out!

I have had problems in the past with this printer and I cured it by updating the drivers.
So try this:
You can determine which driver version is currently installed in Windows XP by completing the steps outlined below:

2. From the Display Properties dialogue box, click the Hardware box
3. Click the Device manager

5. Then click on update drivers
Make sure you choose the xp one when you get a choose after it has searched for them

Right click My Computer. select disc management. Check Universal Serial Bus for a +. If not present, delete and reinstall all printer software. If you are using Vista, get the new drivers for scanner and printer.

Uninstall the printer and all associated software, then go to the HP website and download the latest drivers etc from there.

I had the same problem with the HP Director. It was because I had just installed IE7. I deleted it & all returned to normal. Although Im fairly sure HP have resolved this issue. I guess it might be worth a look.
