They call those people nerds because thats what nerds are portrayed to look like on television. Just because you have braces and wear glasses doesnt mean you are a nerd. I have them both and I can honestly say that Im one of the most popular girls at my high school. People who say that are just ignorant!

Just because you are smart and wear glasses does not automatically classify you as a "nerd". If you think you look dorkish, ask your parents to let you get contacts or buy you a new more fashionable pair of eye glasses. I wear glasses most of the time too, but I get a lot of compliments because they are cute frames.

Dont know, but its a shame, isnt it? I was brought up not to make fun of anyone irregardless. But todays kids arent taught the same values and respect for others as we were. Times have changed drastically. I think maybe alot of it has to do tho with the personality of the kid wearing the braces or glasses...(again, a shame)...but if the kid acts "nerdy", then kids are cruel and will capitalize on that. And NO, its not nice to make fun of anyone.

Every time there is somebody who looks different, people are going give this persons a name.
Is it jealousy? After all they are the ones who run the multimillion dollars companies and give works to us, the no-nerds.

Given the cost of both of those things these days they should be considered a status symbol rather than an emblem of all that is nerdy.

It's probably because people are rude and don't understand others so they choose to label them instead of getting to know them

it's called stereotyping... but i myself know a lot of these so-called "nerds" with great personalties... proving themselves "un-nerdified"... it's all in how you present yourself, wheteher or not you have glasses and/or braces
