With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion

If people follow the path of true religion, it is the greatest good. I am thinking of Christianity. There would be no pride, there would be no hate, only giving and peace between everyone. Unfortunately, men too often sin, do nothing of the kind. Our culture is permeated with evil. Abortion, selfishness, immodesty, and indifference. Too often "religion" is preached more than it is practiced. If the opposite were true, we would live in a better world.

I think people need to have something to believe in, a purpose in their lives. This need is fulfilled by belief in God and exercised through religion.
It is not evil but evil people use it as an excuse for their handiwork. If you're a bad person about to do a bad thing, you can use religion as an excuse...or say that it's because of weapons for mass destruction.

No its the fundamentalists who take pieces of the Bible, Koran etc and try to influence the whole world with it. If you follow a religion then you have to follow all of it and not just the parts you like. So what I'm trying to say is that people are evil not religion.

It depends which way you look at it, there is no YES or NO answer to this question.
Faith can bring hope and comfort or misery and despair, it depends on the nature of the faith and what it requires of the individual.
Faith has been a shining light to millions over the centuries.
Its also been the cause of many wars.
Its a bit of both.

yes, it seems that religion has driven people to start wars(the crusades), commit hanous hate crimes because oftheir strict beliefs on what is right and not on what is moral, and have also managed to alienate a good portion of the population into believing that they are not worthy of the "superior beings" love. i dont believe that people should be told what to be and howtodo it. man needs something to believe in and when something like a religion comes along that promises them happiness for eternity, they cant help but react.

Interesting question. More people have died for it then anything else. People generally don't follow then tenants of their religion tho. So I would have to say that religion isn't the evil, it's the people that are religious that are.
