I detest the BBC and there slanted take on middle east news. Didnt former Chairman Greg Dyke call the BBC a 'disgustingly white' institution, which to me is inverted racism.

Anyway why are we bombarded with news about their missing reporter like we are meant to give a s**t. He was working in a war zone. He knew the risks.

Why dont they make such a big deal about thousands of other people who are abducted by these sort of barbaric people, such as christian missionaries, foreign aid workers, not to mention that teenage israeli soldier.

They dont really seem to give a frik about anyone else but their own. There blinkered attitude makes me sick

Personally I have only seen a few reports about this man, I certainly haven't been bombarded by them. A a "big deal" has been made about non-BBC abductees in the past, such as Norman Kember, Kenneth Bigley, Margaret Hassan etc. In fact I would say that the thee people I just listed received more news coverage than the BBC journalist.

Just because you don't like the BBC doesn't mean that this man's life is worthless, or that he deserves what he is going through. Have a heart!

Love Robert C's answer, made me smile!

Anyway, back to the question. I personally don't think there has been that much on the abduction, and personally hope he is ok and if the media can help with his release then good.

As to the racism stuff - I've never picked up on it before. However, surely anything that highlights the plight of people within countries that suffer from extremists then surely this is good for them too?

Although the BBC can be seen as fairly middle class, I do personally think they do an excellent job on reporting news in the middle east. They don't shirk on suicide bomb stories, and I feel that they are compassionate when talking about the worst areas that suffer on a near daily basis.

Finally, yes he worked in a war zone - to try and highlight the plight of the people living there. He has been described by the people of these countries as their friend, as you can see by their reactions to the kidnapping.

It is up to you if you care about this man and his fate. However I personally do, and hope that he is home safe and sound with his family soon.

With your attitude no wonder there is very little compassion and understanding in the world, this man, like most news reporters wants to work at this job, to bring stories of what is happening in the middle east to the attention of the viewing-public.
At one time war correspondents were treated with respect by all factions in war-zones.

Again you are mistaken, all events such as you stated get coverage, the reporter on the ground is not responsible for the amount of footage that actually gets aired on the t.v. thats controlled by the station managers and producers.

Its very easy for you to sit and be criticle from the safety of your computer, you would think far differently if it was somebody in your family who was taken in such a situation, regardless of race, colour, creed or political beliefs.

It seems to me that we are now living in a society where everyone seems to be overcaring but are they really. Most people are just out for themselves and pretend to care in the name of political correctness.

The media cannot focus on everyones plight unfortunately - why don't someone start up a channel focusing on missing people and the truth in the world for us all to wise up about what is really happening out there instead of just bitching about stories that none of us have the true facts on.

Now that would really be a reality show.

Incidentally, if you were kidnapped would you not want to know if your family, friends and dogooders in life were fighting your corner to get you back home. I know I would.
