Is freedom choice? It seems to be a thing of the past being able to make up ones own mind. What do you think... is too little asked of the opinions of the individuals within our society?

The biggest problem with freedom in the UK, in my opinion, is the large number of surveillance cameras in cities and on roads-- not much privacy. People have never had as much choice or freedom in life as they should, in any country. Democracy brings more of some freedoms and less of others, but it's never enough, and never will be until human nature improves.

Yeah we live in a democracy,
We get a whole lot more freedom than people give us credit for, I would also like to hear some examples of where your freedoms were taken by president Bush, I don't particularly like Bush either but i don't think he's taken away this country's status as a democracy.

If you are in the U.S.A.we never were a democracy. We live in a Republic...always have. The opinions of the individuals mean very little, especially at the voting polls.

You don't say what country you are in. The United States has never been a democracy. It is a representative republic. Voting the bums out does work. In Pennsylvania in 2005, the legislature voted themselves a pay raise using questionable tactics. Many of the persons who led the pay raise scam were voted out of office in 2006. Judges also got the questionable pay raise. Those up for election in 2006 were also voted out of office.

we never had or will have 100% freedom

because it is dangerous. so if you take any democracy it works only if it has borders within which u can make your free choices.

but decision about how wide the borders should be is politicians job. with current world politicians i dont see the perfect one which would put peoples need before his own

the drawback to democracy is that majority rules! even if it's
50% to 49.99999999999999999999999999

the problem or lack of freedom you've most likely been feeling the effects of is the federal government which can somehow make decisions based on "faith" and not popular vote.... and overrule state votes. this is very undemocratic and very unconstitutional and the biggest unchecked problem in our "democratic society"

maybe we're all conditioned to think we live in a democratic society yet when we go and do something against the norm that freedom can be challanged and shutdown. To me democracy is just a term we use to think we're free humans but really we're all chained to the people who have power...

The U.S. is a republic, not a democracy. We are losing more and more freedoms everyday in the name of "national security" laws implemented at the will of the U.S. government.

we have never lived in a democracy, we are always told what to think and how to vote by the media and advertisers, freedom of speech is only available to the highest bidder.
