I have had both and in my experience cable was faster than DSL.

Cable.

Cable usually runs at between 20 and 30 Mbps (usually at the higher end of those numbers). DSL usually runs at around 10 Mbps.

The only time you really run into problems with cable is if every single person in your neighborhood is using it at the same time. I know ours slows down noticeably at about 5:30 in the evening, and that lasts for about an hour. I guess a lot of people use their computers right after they come home from work.

If you have a choice of which to use, use cable. If you don't have a choice, use whichever is available to you. Either one is loads better than dial up.

DSL is a constant speed, if you have a lot of Cable Internet users in your area with the same company it will become slower than DSL, but usually cable is faster.

DSL is faster, I know from experience that DSL is faster, because I used to have cable Internet and then I switched to DSL and it was remarkably faster.
