Several reasons. Lack of natural resources,No minerals. Poor climate causing crop failures and famines.Biggest reason is corruption by governments squandering the national income ,the tribal system in a lot of African countries, with some quite wealthy, others in absolute poverty.A lot of blame is placed on Western countries for exploiting Africa,But most of the assets that Africa has are of Western origin. The majority of Africa's problems could be solved with sound, honest, prudent government without the rebel interference.

Well, depends on where in Africa.

I am in Africa, and we're your typical middle class citizens. Zimbabwe right above us I would say is quite poor, because of Mugabe, and while we are heading that way, we are not that poor.

There are some people that think we are a bunch of tribes where the men hunt and women stay at home in beehive huts. Seriously, I met a few who did, and some even though I had a pet lion.

Talk about bizarre lol.

From what I've heard and read it's a lot to do with how the governments use their powers. Instead of helping their people, by providing proper health care and education, they spend the money on guns and warfare. But then that is the attitude of western society. Colonialism has stuffed up a lot of the countries that we now consider poor.

Do you not read or are you new to the world? Africa was robbed of its future by europeans. I don't know why you posted this but you obviously are as racist as the colonial rulers who raped the land. Maybe the world would be a alot richer if we had not treated them so bad and slaved, whipped and chained them. What if we had worked with them and helped them as well as our evil governments. then we would'nt have loads of etnics in england with chips on thier shoulders. Maybe if they were as forward thinking and inventive as the europeans then who knows. I might actually respect the backward race. maybe if they built some boats that could travel as far as britain then maybe they could have raped and slaved us!!

No! Just like all other countries, they have middle class and the rich ones. Some parts of Africa still have some tribes but doesn't mean EVERYONE is poor and live in huts. They have houses, cars, everything like here but the majority is poor. *Google "african cities" and you will see! :)

The countries that colonized Africa did not put anything in place to support the original citizens and so after using these African countries for all they could get they left them to their own devices with severely depleted resources and total lack of experienced management people .~~

No industry. People need education in order to be industrious. Plus it helps to have exports and imports with other countries.

depends somewhat on how you measure wealth. Is wealth owning cars and lawn mowers and tvs, or being able to watch lions at play in the morning.
