Its called gay-dar.
There is usually some underlying clue that you just can't put your finger on, but you have a strong suspicion.

I can help you a little on this one, since several of my friends have come out. There are 2 possible theories for this one. 1, you were obviously gay, and you do not notice it yourself but your good friends will. & 2, they are just saying it to help themselves deal with the fact that you are gay and you may have done personal things together and they are your friend so they are learning to accept you for who you are. Understand? A homophobic will run every therory threw there head, Did they look at me funny, and stupid stuff like that.
I had a friend that was obviously gay all his life, and when he came out, we already all knew. Then some of my friends have just floored me when they came out, I didn't know. We are all raised differently, so those who are gay and haven't quite fugured out are just living a life that is embedded into us from child hood.
I got the "I WILL DISOWN YOU!" speech when I was young, and told I would Burn In Hell, if I did this or that. All those things have to be delt with and then all of a sudden there you are, you are free to be you and love who you love.
Good luck to you.

1 of the girls in my ex-high school was lesbian, i could never tell. I mean, she's kinda different, but in a unique-personality way, not like weird-different. I was kinda shocked over hearing she's lesbian.
But there were other 2 lesbos in school, i knew, because i could feel they were hitting on me.
But, also, people could possibly tell you're lesbian if you :
1/ Never have had a boyfriend. Only go out with the girls. Ie: dont like boys
Or
2/ Your friends are mainly boys. You rarely have any girlfriends.
3/ They saw you checking out other girls, hahaha

i guess sometime sthe signs you give off- bearing in mind taht some poeple think they see something you don't in order to deal with the knowledge themselves. Bear in mind also that you may have knwown but dint wanna admit it to yourself.
I was told by someone that i was gay- and for a while- (3 years!) i was with anotehr female, livingh what i thought was who i was. turns out now that i am in fact confused...!
I can see the beauty in both sexes- but in terms of you- pay attention to the way you put yourself across- because only you really can ansdwer the question that you've asked.
Also they have the outside perspective- they can see things you don't because they are watching you do it- you are too involved to see!
I hope this helps you some... feel free to email me, i could probably answer your questions in better detail that way...

It's that big purple "L" on your forehead....that only some can see :)
No- maybe you arbitrarily fit some stereotypes, or perhaps your friends are particularly sensitive/perceptive. I don't buy the "gay-dar" thing...there are too many times people are wrong because they are just trying to fit someone w/ a label...whatever the case, hopefully you are comfortable and content with your self discovery & you are blessed to have friends who are apparently comfortable too....that is nice.

Hmm, good question. It's more like a feeling...just an inner knowing that's hard to explain.
I knew a very good friend of mine was gay, years before he came out...he asked me years later, how I knew....I couldn't explain it then and I can't explain it now...it's just an inner feeling/knowing.
He was always such the ladies man too.

Some people have different mannerisms, react differently
to opposite sexes, and I'm sure there are other ways but
that is the only things I noticed about my friends.

My friend very rarely talked about her personal life.
She never talked about liking a guy or thinking a guy was cute or sexy.
She was surprised that I had already figured it out and didn't care.

It is in human nature to notice the `different`. It is possibly an innate biological requirement to differentiate possible breeding partners.
