Hi
Think yourself lucky, last week I started work for the Samaritans, on my second day I phoned in sick but the ba....ds talked me out of it.

I was off with a migraine - stress related also! Due to things at work, buying a house, arranging my wedding, and worrying about my fiance finding a new job when he relocates! Anyway - my boss didn't react other than to say 'ok - hopefully you'll be okay tomorrow'. I'm the manager at the offices anyway, so nobody else could tell me off lol! I hope you're better soon - back backs are a most definite agony!

I was off sick, recently, basically with stress resulting in migrane aura. My boss didn't react at all, in fact I think I signed my sick note on his behalf, he wasn't here anyway, he was working overseas. He wouldn't have cared anyway, not that he is a bad manager, far from it, in fact I think it is the bad managers who would react, making a mountain out of a mole hill, over what is basically an unimportant issue. It is not as though you are lying on your death bed in hospital.
Pity the first answerer did not bother to read your question!!

apply an ice pack to your back for fifteen minutes at a time. This might help take down some of the inflammation and pain. use Advil tablets three times daily to help with the pain. You really need to see a chiropractor as soon as possible so you can get back to work. I've enclosed to link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

Don't worry about your boss. You get a sick note from your GP and have 2 weeks off sick to recover. If you need longer have longer.
I had a prolapsed disc caused when my son swung on my neck (when he was 3) and my neck went crunch and I was in agony. Had to have 2 weeks off sick with intensive physio. Was better in the 2 weeks but it taught me to watch my back and not take it for granted.
