The Cubs do, Position by position the cubs have better players

Barrett while not as good defensivley as molina hits a lot better
Pujols is a bit better hitting than Lee (though Lee has outhit him so far this year (leading the MLB in avg) and his previous healthy year of 2005) and Lee is better defensively
Ramirez and Rolen are a wash
Soriano is better than duncan
Theriot is playing better than Eckstien at SS
Edmonds isint hiting and while he is good in CF, all those diving catches look to have taken a toll on his body

The Cubs have a better pitching staff with a 3.64 ERA compared to 4.10 for the Cards

people will say injuries this and injuries that for the cards but guess what, the cubs have dealt with the same thing for the prevous 3 years. I also wouldnt expect carpenter to come back this season.

I don't know what standings you're looking at cuz the Cubs are in 3rd with a 17-18 record and the Cards are in 5th not last with 15-20 record. So the Cubs are only 2 games ahead of the Cards. And considering the Cards have played struggled so much and guys like Rolen, Pujols and Eckstein have been in slumps I'd say the Cubs are better right now but by the end of the season the Cards will be.

Carpenter being hurt is a huge blow but to the pitching staff. But as a whole the pitching has been pretty good but hasn't gotten any run support. And the cards offense will not be this bad all year. For as poorly as they have played 15-20 is a surprising record for such a bad team. Which is bad news for the teams in the Central. However, I don't think anyone will catch the Brewers in the Central this year.

There is no doubt the Cubs have the better team, its just if they give it all they got (which they aren't at this time). Its like they give up once they get a couple runs. Can't name the whole Card team, but I do know the majority being big in baseball. **Cub Fan**haha
SP for Cubs vs. Cards
We've got
Hill--This is one heck of a lefty...low era is top ten on era list I believe
Lilly & Marquis--both top 10 on era list too!
^ All show lots of promise and have been lights out
Zambrano--This guys thinks his problem is fixed, we'll see tomorrow
Guzman--Is being a pretty good fill in. Gives up a few runs, but doesn't all pitchers?
Cards
Carp--hurt, and thats sure hurting the cards
all or 4/5 I know are all young rookies.
I believe 2 were right out of the bullpen.
Hitters
Cubs big 3
Ramirez, Soriano, Lee
There big 3
Pujols, Rolen, and I'd say Edmonds
However you look at the 3 and you definately say Rami, Lee, and Sori are the pick out of those. You've got speed and power in Soriano, Ramirez + Lee provide power, and they make awesome plays (gold glove), so does Sori as well.
Pujols has power, but he's not fast, same w/ Rolen, and Edmonds (sorry to say but he's getting old).
Cubs have other good guys such as
DeRosa, Murton, Barrett, Theriot
Cards have
Eckstein, Speizio etc. So I'd def say the Cubs have the advantage.
Cards probably have the better bullpen, but either way, Cubs still have the better team if you look at on stats and in reality, even if they are not playing to the max.

It doesn't take much for a team to be in 2nd in the NL (Comedy) Central... trust me I've been following this division for a LOOONNNG time (Astros fan).... I really think the Cards have the better team of the two (when they are playing up to potential... BUT, they've gone through a lot already...and the season is young)... They both have fairly decent teams... although, the Cards are aging at a few positions.... I still give the advantage right now to LaRussa's bunch.... Like the Astros, the Cards really get good in the second half... The Cubbies seem to tail off in the second half... But, all in all, the NL Central is open to pretty much anybody right now (remember it only took 83 games to win it last year... In the other two divisions, that wouldn't have even been enough for a Wild Card.)....Eventhough the Brewers have a pretty fair lead, right now.... Trust me, it's open to anyone (doesn't necessarily have to be the "better" team... just the one that is the hottest at the moment.

I would have to say the Cubs. With ALfonso Soriano who was a top homerun hitter last year and Derek Lee who is a great player and gets better every day. The cubs are definatley better than the cards who only have Albert Pujols to lead the team. IF the cards want to get better they need to step it up on defense and i mean pitching. So the cubs are a better team!

Have to go with Cubbies. Cards are off to terrible start. Check below to read about the Cubs' get-away game victory over the Phillies.

The Cardinals are positively pathetic!! The Cubs are still in the race and have the talent to win the division they are in. No question, they will have a better record than the Cards.

Chow!!
