Well at the beginning of the war the Germans had their Messerschmidt 109 E that Willie Messerschmidt took the World flying speed record with a speed of 437 + per hour in l936, which was one of the best and fastest planes used by the Germans in that war. It was truely the Work Horse of the Nazi Air Force.

The United States started the war off with the Bell Air Cobra or P-39, and the P-40 (Famous for its China Flying Tigers Group which was dreaded by the Japanese before the Jamanese attacked Pearl Harbor on 12-7-41.) and later developed the twin engine Lightening P-38,Thunderbolt P-45, and finally the "Cadillac" of Fighters the famed P-51 Mustang which was considered THE best Fighter in WWII because it was unmatched by any enemy fighter plane.

All of the above were Fighters and used mainly in Dog Fights and for straffing and observation purposes.

The most Famous British fighter was the Spitfire a truely fantastic fighter that could do tighter turns than any of the German planes could do and it was put to good use in the "Sky War over Brittan".

The English Bombers consisted ot Wellington and Lancasters - which enabled the Brits to Bomb Germany - while American Heavy Bombers consisted mainly of the Flying Fortress B-17, and the Liberator B-24 and the Martin B-26 (twin engine) which Jimmy Doolittle used in Bombing Tokoyo Japan for the first time. Later we developed the B 19 which was the plane that dropped the Atom Bombs on Japan which was responsible for ending the war.

Space is too short to give you a detailed record of Development up to this date -

Sorry about that!
