you mean the idiot box? curse, it's so a curse. health statistics have gone done, energy use has gone up, and people are more concerned with distant celebrities or the latest trend than their own families.

I'm sure most mothers would say it's a good baby sitter and, keeps the kids quiet.

I use it for Discovery and History channels. I've learned a lot off of it. I've gone without it for certain reasons from time to time. It's not the center of attraction in our home, we have an old 23 inch Admiral with a selector that sometimes works if you bang on it right.

I look at the huge flat screen models and wonder what these people do with their lives, watch T.V. all the time. Don't they go outside and smell the roses.
I've had nephews that have never gone outside in the summer, rather chose to stay indoors and watch nonsense cartoon channels all summer. A waste of brains I thought.

If we come in from our yard work, the workshop or the quilting and sewing areas we built, we may sit for awhile and catch some History or National Geographic channel. We also usually fall asleep watching these channels. A good sleep aide. Hope this helps.

There have been numerous studies on television and all of them have shown a negative impact on society at large. It shortens attentions spans, delays speech in youth, makes people more prone to violence (or at least insensitive too it). It robs young children of imaginary play time which is essential to learning creativity, robs children of social time playing with others, which is necessary for social development. It also makes kids sit on their butts for long periods of time, which causes them to get fat.
TV is the most meaningless, least stimulating activity there is. The body burns more calories while a person is sleeping. Not to mention that children are exposed to a huge amount of very materialistic advertising, to which they are highly susceptible. There is, of course, good programming on television, and with moderation it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Unfortunately, when the average kid watches more than 3 hours of TV a day, moderation is obviously not well-practiced.
