I haven't read Fahrenheit 451, I've only seen the film - is this explained in the book?

I just re-read this book! And made 2 of my kids read it. His conscience doesn't allow him to keep going to the fires because now he knows what he is burning- he just can't bring himself to slide the pole.
Try reading it if you get the chance. Kinda scary- I can see it happening with the "right' government in charge.

It is not a matter of can't but won't because he has been exposed to books and he is having trouble going back to burning them.
