wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong, who told you that? where is your control in this ridiculous experiment?
I work nights I sleep all day and work all night I´m taller in the evening than in the morning....
of course I suppose the real answer you are looking for is gravity and spinal compression over the hours that you are standing upright.

I've never noticed a taller appearance, but we are a fraction of an inch taller in the mornings due to the fact that our skeletons compress slightly as we walk through our daily lives. Again though, it's not really something most people notice just by observing.

As most have stated, during the night your spine expands and during the day it compresses. This is caused by gravity on two counts. Fistly the natural compressing effect of your weight causes the fibrous ligaments in your spine to compress and this causing approximately 1 inch loss during a typical 'day'. Also at night when we are sleeping it is the forve of gravity which draws fluids to the lowest areas of our body, which is normally the spine, rehydrating the sipnal column and causing the ligaments to expand, thus elongating the spine. This also accounts for why the difference between 'morning & night' heights is greater for people who sleep on their back.

because your spine compresses, gravity has been acting on you all day and when you lie down to sleep your back spreads a little. thats why when they measure the tallest man in the world they take the average of the 3 measurements throughout the day. morning afternoon and evening.

Because we wake up hopeful and ready to conquer the world but by the end of the day we realized we can't conquer the world and barely have enough energy left to eat before we collapse to start the process all over again.

1. Gravity - he's been sleeping all night in a horizontal position, which elongates the spine. After standing all day, gravity compresses the spine.
2. Being tired - maybe he slouches.
