This morning when I turned on my laptop it said to me: Yo Buddy! Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs\.sys

I have tried everything. I cannot even get to the "r" at the first screen.
I have tried to re-boot the machine wityh the XP disk in the cd-rom. It will not let me go anywhere and tells me:
Yo Buddy! Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs\.sys

I cannot even get into the command prompt mode, safe mode or anywhere else. I am completely locked out and don't know what to do!

Anybody know what the hell is going on with my computer.

Your knowledge and wisdom in this dark field of binary coding is greatly appreciated!

CHeers, Rob

You must go into the Bios and enable booting from the CD ROM. Then place the XP install disk in the CD ROM and restart the computer.

To get into BIOS several different keys are used by different companies. Refer to your manual or.

Hi Rob, you must have the limited edition of XP, as all the ones I worked with never said 'Yo buddy'.

Your NTFS is missing, you will need to do a repair install from your special XP CD, set your BIOS to boot from CD/DVD first, start up and press any key to boot from CD/DVD.
Ignore the first screen when ask if you wish to repair, just press ENTER, then the next screen should list your current Windows installation, and offer you to do a repair install.

WARNING !!!, if you dont know what you are doing, its best to seek help fromsome local computer store if you have important info on the PC, the above procedure should work, but you are taking a risk (as with any Microsoft operations).

it sounds like your ntfs filesystem driver is mia

try this

get a live distro of linux (hear me out) slax works great and its small

copy the ntfs.sys file from a working copy of XP

boot slax on broken pc

and copy the ntfs.sys file from usb drive floppy or cd to your C:\windows\system32\drivers folder.(in slax it should be hdd0 or hdd1 windows system32 drivers.

reboot to windows and cross your fingers

if it doesn't work use slax to backup all your files

boot your xp install cd

and install xp to the same spot as your old vers without formating it should repair your installation
