You can get a copy from the IRS for $39. or a transcript of the return for free. you should be able to rebuild a return with the transcript. The transcript gives you the line by line numbers but it's not a photo copy. Also, if you need your W-2's, they don't come with the transcript, just total wages.
call IRS at 800-829-1040

1. U should always keep tax returns etc for seven years. That is as far back as Canadian Government presently goes during an audit.
2. If U had it done by an accountant or H&R Block. They should have copies.
3. Present or former employers may be able to give U copies of T4 slips. It might help. It may cost U.
4. Copies of medicial receipts might be obtained from your doctor/dentist/pharmacist or other care giver. There may be a fee.
5. Charities or churches U donated to may still have records. Remember these R charities it might not be worth their time or yours if U only made small donations.
6. If U have other deductions go back to the source if possible. They many have records they need for their tax purposes that include things U need.
7. If U put stuff that is deductable on your credit card, the credit card company may have something U can use. Long shot, I really don't know if this is possible.
Hope this is useful.

If you had a professional prepare it, ask them. They should keep copies. Or, there is a IRS form which for about $39 per year they will send you a copy in about 6 weeks. Call 1-800-TAX-1040 for the form to fill out.

Whoever did your returns before should have your copies of your tax returns. Normally you can just call them up and they will send them to you.

See http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc156.html for info on how to get a copy, or a transcript which will probably give you the information that you need. A copy costs $39 per return, the transcript is free.
