I don't live in India, but when I go visit, I stay in Churchgate and go to Bandra all the time. I've never been on the Mumbai local, just because I don't live there, and I'm pretty sure I'd get lost...wouldn't wanna risk wasting more time! Take a cab, it'll take a while, with traffic we're talking give or take an hour...get's annoying, but oh well, safer that way! Pay by the meter though, those cab drivers know when you aren't from India, and they really try to rip you off!

Bandra to Churchgate must be around 15 kms. If you are new to Bombay then please take a cab and pay as per the meter readings. The time taken by a cab could be around 1 hour. It also depends on the time of the day and traffic conditions. However, if you wish to take the Mumbai local and are travelling for the first time you might as well take a first class ticket which would be around Rs. 50/- as compared to the second class ticket which is around Rs. 5/-. The time of journey is around 30-40 minutes depending on wheather you take a fast or slow train. Wishing you a happy journey !!!

By railway it is about 22kms or so. If you take a slow train from Bandra, which will stop at every station before reaching Churchgate, it will take about 35 minutes travel. If you manage to catch the fast train, it will take about 24 to 26 minutes. The trains are fairly crowded.
If you opt for cab, you will be very comfortable but then it will cost you a lot and you may be spending lot of time in travel jams etc.
There's one more option - travel by BEST bus. It is reasonably priced and fairly comfortable.
For me, train travel is a far better option.
Happy travel.

It is easier to take the local, but avoid locals at peak hours. But there are buses which will allow u to have a look at the city of mumbai. U may also take a cab. It may take about 30 mts. to reach churchgate.

The train is fastest but only manageable during off peak hours. During peak hours you wont be able to board the train if you are not used to it !!! You can also take several buses including AC bus from Bandra to Churchgate, it will take about an hour. Cab will cost you about Rs200 and take from 45min - 1hr.
