When do you think the papers are going to wake up to public opinion? Or will they just keep playing the politically correct 'dont dare upset the greiving parents' role.
I havent seen one paper take them to task yet. And yet they are more than happy to rip the Portugese police to shreds, despite the fact that even the British police who are over there helping them havent been able to do anything either (but we'll keep quiet on that one, no need to highlight our own failings).

Where did you get rule of law and mob out of what I said?
Did you actually read what I wrote?

2) Yes if she was taken then they deserve the full force of the law, but because the parents played a lesser part, should they walk away scott free?

What good would the media haranguing the parents do? Isn't it a better idea to focus on bringing the little one home first? I agree that these questions need asking and answering but now is not the time.
I can't think of anything more agonising for a parent than losing their child. I agree that the parents were negligent and brought this on themselves, but they're going to spend every minute of their lives knowing that. I can't imagine how that must feel. I'm not defending the McCanns' irresponsibility at all, but I see no use whatsoever in wishing them harm (which many people have done on Y!A today) when they have inadvertently created their own worst nightmare.

Hello
I've been reading some of the posts on this very sad subject and I really think that there does need to be an overall balance and because there isn't that is why everyone is getting so upset with the so called 'soft' treatment of the parents.
In today's society, and in the press in particular, when anything bad that involves young people happens, they are the first to say 'blame the parents'. Now something truly bad has happened and instead of being the questioning voice of society, which is what papers are traditionally supposed to do, they have gone completely the other way, almost fearfull of upsetting these parents rather than asking that all important question - why did you leave your children like that?. And that is understandable - these people have suffered a terrible loss and one which they will have to deal with for the rest of their live - my heart truly goes out to them.
BUT I just wish that the press would stop justifying what has happened by saying that 'we all leave our kids', or 'we've all done it'. No, we have not all done it and I don't want to be lumped into the faction that do because I don't.
Child abduction is the exception not the norm - to say 'oh it could have happened to any of us' is completely wrong and unfair - this was preventable, and I can't help but think that had this been a poor working class family or a single mother, the press would be behaving very differently.
Lets keep praying for this poor soul.

Yeah, I agree. I laughed at the BBC who followed the Portugese police about, and seemed shocked when the police wouldn't batter down a seemingly empty house!! The BBC were like 'But...but...poor Maddie could be IN that house...why are you not going to batter the door down???"
The media will never go against the parents. Never. Its just not done in Britain. Because of the parents status. If the parents had been young junkies living in a poor housing estate, and on the very first holiday of their lives, then yes - Blame The Parents. But Doctors and Consultants?? Oooooh no....salt of the earth.

I read in the paper that Maddie was somehow more precious because she was IVF. This is an insult to parents and children everywhere, and that is what is upsetting a lot of people . This normal. fallible family is being portrayed as super heroic against all reason. I'm grateful for all the bikers and police and everyone else who has searched so long, I'm deeply sorry for the parents and everyone who is feeling her loss, I dread to think of what she is going through, even when remembering other parents and other children who suffered too but somehow didn't excite the media interest to anything like the same degree, and feel the worst for it. It is an obscenity on the part of the media and people really won't stand for being told what to think by a such a bunch of hypoctites.

The papers will wake up when they see more profit in a different approach.
Personally, I am not sure all the publicity is a good idea. The missing girl becomes too great a liability for the kidnapper(s). They may choose what seems to be the only option and some months from now her remains will be found in a remote area.

The Parents won't be taken to task Dave as the papers know that they can afford a court case against possible slander. They are rich middle class doctors, they will never be put down in the press the same way a single mother or poor family might.
The facts are...they left that child alone with the other two kids...(a wonder they were not taken). They should be held accountable for that.

No paper will dare do that at the moment although I do get the opinion that public opinion is not on thier side,Ok it is an awful thing to happen to any parent but thier failings are to blame, nobody can now deny that and as the days go by more is coming out about thier actions in general, and in my humble opinion it stinks of child neglect.
Many wil say that I should concentrate on the child but I prefer to give my efforts and money to all children in need around the world. My wife did 8 years with Oxfam some of which was a campaigns manager, all unpaid and largly unreconised but that is not why she did it,giving money to just one child excludes the millions who also deserve,
The newspapers WILL in time find a new story to concentrate on and the McCannes will be lost in our memories as have so many before.

from the way people are talking and what the portugese say and the papers most british people leave there children alone it just a common thing all the people defending the mccanns so you would leave ur kids or u have left ur kids. yes its sad very sad for maddie and her parents have to live with what happen but they LEFT THERE 3 CHILDREN NOT ONCE BUT MOST NIGHT TO EAT WITH FRIENDS.i have 3 kids and have never left them not even outside a shop so not every parent is the same no matter what the situation i would never leave my kids nor would most british parents, i wish the media and people would stop ***** footing around they were alone

Hi, me again!
It's like I put in my last post to you, everyone puts what they think should be said rather than what they actually feel. This goes the same for the press. They're probably bound by certain legal aspects too, considereing the nature of this case. Apparently the "parents" have had to fly their lawyers out for something or other, (I don't really know the facts, it was in another post). Why the need for lawyers if they've done nothing wrong?
Just keep telling it like it is, Dave, it's really refreshing.
Pedro, what fecking drugs are you on? SILLY? SILLY? It was a damned sight more than silly!!!!!!!!! (Although to be fair, there are a lot more than you on drugs; everyone who sticks up for the parents, in a nutshell).
Amsterdam, Madeleine was entitled to protection by her parents too, but she didn't get that, did she? So what if people call her Maddie? At least we're thinking of her, that's more than the parents did.
