Download & install the latest iTunes software from Apple.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
After you download and install iTunes, when you connect the iPod, the software for that will go thru initial installation/setup, after which it will show up in the Device list in iTunes.
When you set up the iPod, it will prompt you to let it automatically sync all the music etc in iTunes onto the iPod. You can right-click the iPod at anytime and sync it again (or disconnect it and reconnect it).
You can change the settings to have more control (if you want it) over what gets put on the iPod. To change the settings, connect the iPod, and it will show up on the left side of the iTunes window under Devices. With the iPod selected in the list, notice the various tabs at the top of the main iTunes window; on each of those tabs are the different settings for things like "manually manage music" (on the Settings tab), "sync . . . selected playlists . . ." (on the Music tab) and so on.
After making any changes to the various settings, click Apply, and the changes will show on the iPod after the next time you sync it.
