The best ratio is 1 male to every 3-4 females. How many you put in your breeding tank is a matter of space available, but if I were you I would really consider what I am going to do with all those baby Mollies in about 2 months. You will have hundreds by that time with more on the way even if you start with only 4 females.

20 - 30 fish in a tank is simply going to cause you more problems.

Have less fish for example 4 fish in a tank will keep your mollies healthier. They wil lbe able to get more food and swim around. This will ensure the females are healthy and produce larger broods of fry.

Mollies also tend to eat their young so any babies born into a tank of 30 adults barely has a chance to live 5 minutes.

A well planted tank (or you can put a breeding tank) with less fish will allow most of the fry to survive.

Good luck with the breeding.

as long as the tank's not OVERCROWDED, that's fine.
and then you'll have to put in more females than males, probably best about twice the numbers of the males.

if you don't know how to sex them apart, you can look at their anal fin, the female's are semi circular as like any other fish, while males' are pointy called gonopodium to transfer sperm.

and one more thing, try not to get yur fish in stress, mating season is important for them, provide hiding places like plants, rocks, etc is best.

good luck! ^_^
