The best table games
Craps - Play the pass line, Take the odds - Place the 6 or 8 - avoid all other bets
Blackjack - 3/2 with basic strategy
Baccarat - Bet the bank or player
Pai Gow Poker - Slow, fun game with a low house advantage 1.4%
Video Poker
9/6 JOB(99.54%)
10/7 DB(100.2%)
FPDW(100.7%)
JWKOB(100.7%)
JOB is very easy to learn to play, go to this web site. He has a very simple strategy that will get you to almost 100% return on the game
http://www.wizardofodds.com >you can go to the "Bodog" web site from there and play a very realistic game, just for fun and practice. With JOB strategy you can also play 8/5 BP and without a great number of changes to JOB strategy you can play 10/7 DB >I make 6 small changes in my strategy and it puts me at a return of 99.9%
If you're interested in comps for your play, then VP is the way to go. You get a lot more in return for your VP play than table games players do. The locals and downtown hotels are the easiest to score comps in.
This site will tell you where to find the best VP in LV or anywhere in the country.

Low limit table games
Pai Gow Poker - Orleans - lots of $5 tables
Craps - Westin Casuarina - during the week they have happy hour from 5p-10p you can play craps for $1
Blackjack - single deck 3/2 - El Cortez(6 tables) Western(1) Four Queens(2)
Roulette - Single Zero $5 game - Stratosphere - the limit goes up at times >double zero roulette is a very bad game with a 5.26% house advantage, the single zero game cuts that down to 2.7% still not a good game in my book, but it's kind of fun every now and then. So if you just can't stay away from the wheel, at least play a single zero game.
Sports betting is fun, but it's not a good bet. It's pretty tough to beat a dime line. =$110 to win $100
If you're interested in Texas Hold'em poker

The Luxor is a great place for a beginner. They have lessons in the mornings then you play against the other "newbies" for a while to get the hang of it.
To gamble wisely, you need to know.

The best gambles in Vegas are BJ with basic strategy, video poker with correct strategy and sports betting. You can find a basic strategy card for BJ in any casino gift shop. Using it, you can cut the house edge down to around 1%. VP is a little more difficult to play properly. I would stick with BJ with the strategy card. Very important though... avoid any game that pays 6-5 instead of 3-2 on a BJ. It is highway robbery!

The best gamble in Las Vegas is not to gamble but if you must don't gamble more than you can afford to lose the house always has the advantage

sports - 2 way parlay off the big board pays 13-1/2 to 5
that means pick two teams you think will win, bet $20
if both win, you win $52 and get your $20 back
