19 minus 1 doesn't equal 20. It equals 18.
However, your textbook might been this:
19 - (-1) = 20 (2 negative signs make a positive, so the numbers would be added together)
OR
-1 - 19 = -20
The question isn't very specific...but hope this helps anyway! =D

You weren't very specific in your question. If that is the exact question then whoever gave out the problem needs to be more specific. The answer is either.
-19 minus 1 equals -20
OR
19 minus -1 equals 20
=/ Wish i could help you more. =/

simple
roman no 1= I
roman no. 19= XIX
roman no. 20= XX
so if you remove 1 (I) from 19 (XIX) it becomes 20 (XX).
