yes, mostly the metrosexual men, like ryan seacrest. he seems very high maintenance and self-conscious about his appearance. i think some are affected by the media portrayal of what a sexy man looks like (george clooney, brad pitt, etc), so they try to mimic what they think women want physically from men(6 pack abs, toned arms, stylish wardrobe & hairstyle, etc) and are probably constantly insecure & comparing themselves with them. i think men are just as insecure as women. men in general suffer from the pressures of body image but they don't blatantly complain about it as some women do due to their pride and fear of being called a crybaby or similar names implying that they're weak.

Wow, interesting stats, graymalkin. Isn't it interesting that the "ideal" male body is so muscular, considering that most women do not prefer the overly-muscular body type? It's equivalent to women who want to be as skinny as runway models, even though most men would prefer a woman with a little more shape. Why are our ideals tending toward the extreme?
I am not a man, obviously, but most men I know care a lot about their appearance- mostly about not being big enough (height, body structure, penis size). They try to hide it, because I guess they don't want to look insecure.
Also whenever men call another guy a "pretty boy," I think they are actually jealous.

they definitely have body image issues. height is a big one (which no one can do anything to grow taller). weight and body frame is a big one too. it's easy to shop for really big clothes, but what about guys with smaller frames? are the fashion designers saying that smaller body types do not exist? on top of that, there are fewer clothes and fewer selections for guys. so that makes it even harder.
with the advancement that women have made in recent years, there is much less distinction between what both sexes can do and achieve. women can be soldiers, politicians, astronauts, firefighters, basically all the "macho man jobs." i think some men cling to musculature and bodybuilding since they can identify with it as something uniquely male and basically exclusive to men.
men emoting about their body image problems are perceived as weak and ineffectual so it's not socially acceptable to talk about. the problem has very low visibility, and even fewer outlets for serious support. men with body image problems will be told to compensate for it some other way, usually wealth, career, talent, personality, and so on. denial is not the answer!
good luck.

Yes but not as much as women though
A man does not have to be good looking and talented to be appreciated. Best example music charts, look at all the guys up the top, and then compare them to the women. All the women have gorgeous bodies while the men.... some are hot, but its not a necessity the way it is with women.
Men do struggly with body image issues I'm sure, just not to the degree that women do

I've seen dudes do some pretty messed up things to lose weight (to get approval from women).
Example:
I have seen men where garbage bags into the sauna to sweat the weight off, because they're so self conscious of their appearance. However, I think it's hard to point fingers at models, or actors for that. Where will that get you? Even if that is the problem, what are you going to do?

For the men who desire and expect something from their body maybe. But most men aren't hook into submissive sufferings of any kind, they are mostly pleasure seekers.
Women can carry better on sufferings, even if they suspect they may not gain much. And they are used to see that most men expect not much else beyond their body image.
Fortunately for men, most women are not so shallow or easily satisfied to demand so less. They expect from Men more.
Only a woman or man not building expectations about themselves on others, would not suffer about their body unreality.

Yes, some do. I think possibly boys/men tend to keep their appearance concerns more quiet, for fear of being perceived as shallow or vain. There are men out there that couldn't give a toss what they look like, but at the same time there are men out there who are just as appearance conscious as women generally are, some even more so.
HTH.

Of course they do. It's just not socially acceptable (yet) for them to be open about it. However, it is a prevalent issue - consider all of the hair loss, weightloss and strength-building products marketed to men in the United States. Millions of dollars are spent marketing to men with body image issues each year.
