and what did you gain by losing it?

My mother died less than two years ago while I was at work. I had asked her to slow down the day before but she gave me one of those looks. I didn't gain anything from her death accept the responsibility to keep my father company until he dies. I told him not to worry about it and just to live his life like he normally would. Once he passes on I will leave the area and nobody around here will ever see me again. I will gain nothing from the passing of my parents which is OK, I don't belong here I am here because they asked me to stay. It sucks being alone all of the time and now my future is in question as well.

I lost a passport. I gained the realization that by putting something away thinking to myself that "this way I will know where I will find it", and then losing it, and "that was pretty dumb of me and my memory really is getting worse''. :o(
