Do a search for previously asked questions. This one has been popular. A number of us have laid out a lot of information in those answers. Too much to re-write over and over.

Jump starting a motorcycle with an automobile battery will cause no damage (as long as the car is not running). A motorcycle's electrical system will only draw enough amperage as it needs. A car battery does not force amperage into the motorcycle. Even if the opposite were the case, the motorcycle's 30 amp main fuse would blow before any damage would occur. If you want to start you bike in the middle of the night and keep the noise level down - hold a heavy rag at the end of the muffler, to muffle the noise. Try it in the day time to hear the difference.

Sure. If the motorcycle engine starts after a couple cranks, then you are all set.

Just be careful how long you let the engine crank over if it doesn't start right away. If you let the starter work too hard, it could get too hot and burn out. To avoid this, only let it crank over 5 or 6 times. Then let it cool for a while. Then crank it over again. After several tries, if it still won't start you know that you have some sort of problem other than a dead battery. Find and fix the problem before you damage your starter.

Like was mentioned before, DON'T have the car running, it produces to many amps for a motorcycle battery to handle.

Sure. All batteries have been 12 V, negative ground for 30 years, anyway. If the bike is older than that, check the voltage.

Can't you just jump start it by letting it coast and then putting it into gear? Run it for awhile and recharge the battery?

if the car is not running you could be fine, but quickly disconnect it. too much power to that little battery could blow it.

Yep, just disconnect it quickly so it doesn't smoke anything on the bike when it starts up.
