The Beatles are great songwriters, have a variety of songs (and many of them), and are more or less the most influential band on the genre of rock.

Their audience grew up listening to them and identifying with the things they were singing about, future generations found certain aspects more interesting than others. They were able to incorporate a lot of styles in their catalog, no one went "you can't play" to them as much as fans may do to bands today. The audience allowed them to grow even if there were some missteps along the way.
There's a ton of songs people can identify with.
I think there's a lot of things they stole, and admitted as much (Come Together being a huge example, yet Chuck and John still jammed together on Mike Douglas), but it also drew attention to the sources they stole from.
You can't forget the harmonies. That's the selling point.

First of all, you have not one or two but three really good songwriters in John, Paul and George. Even Ringo had a #1 solo hit (It Don't Come Easy).
Second, the performances were eclectic. These gentlemen knew they were really on fire. Did you see Paul's Super Bowl performance last year at 61? Fantastic today.
Finally, I believe their management was good enough to keep them on the right track for as long as possible.
