I was thinking Kayla Amerie as a good girl's first-middle name (hopefully sounds flirt-y without sounding slutty) and Jay Candence (hopefully athletic without sounding forced or militaristic) as a boy's first-middle name.
My point is to give my children names that make it easier for them to get along with others (and harder to be made fun of)...rather than just borrow relatives' first/last names regardless of their social impact.
What do you think of these name and this plan (why I'm naming my kids the way I am)...any other suggestions?

Ok, update.
Firstly it's CADENCE (yes, as in rhythm, that's intentional both running and music run in our blood...and also a name not just a word...(source babynames.com)).
And it's not Cadence (as the first name) Cameron from Full House (old school!!). :-)
Secondly I'm thinking changing the names to
1. Selena Amerie and
2. James Cadence

They both sound like excellent names! And your reasons are valid and good! Keep it up!

I'm all for naming your kids something that will work in the future as well as now when they're children. I think Kayla Amerie is a great name, but don't think you should try to pick something because it sounds flirty. Pick it because it's a nice, classic name. I like Jay too, but I think there are some stronger and more masculine sounding names. I like Drake Candence better.

I love Kayla, but how do you pronounce Amerie?
Jay is great but do you mean Cadence or Candence? I like Cadence. Cadence is like a drum ensemble or military chant.
you have a great plan

i think it a great idea, i mean - im named after my mother, and i was teased about it a few years back. But sometimes it would just mean that the other kids are envyious of your children. I know from experience that when you tell your kids this they dont always listen to you. Nameing you children like this is an excelent idea, the only consern i have is that kayla is a common name, i remember going to school and knowing girls that had the same name as me, and it annoyed me how the teacher would call her, and i would answer. It is quite an embarassing thing.

I like Kayla Amerie, and I like Jay, not so sure about Candence though, to me it sounds a bit like a girls name. Maybe Camden?

I was thinking at first that Jay Cadence was another girl's name until you said you were thinking of it for a boy. Just to let you know, since you're thinking of the perceptions of others. But I think they're both beautiful names.

Most people borrow relatives names and use them for middle names. Which is fine to me because you don't really have to tell anybody your middle name. Anyway, you should name your kids how and for whatever reason you want. Its your choice. If you name a girl Kayla, she will be one of like, five in her kindergarten class. I hear it so often now its ridiculous. I tried to use less popular names (except for my first born) to avoid being like everyone else. But still names that aren't way out there and perfectly acceptable to society.

Ella Rose is adorable! I'm not a big fan of Veronica but Veronica Mae sounds nice :) I love Emerson! I was going to suggest Emerson Rae but when I saw the extra detail about how Emerson Bay was where you met your husband.. that makes Bay seem better to me. I cant pick a favorite. I like them all, but Emerson Bay has the most meaning it seems. Good Luck and Congrats!! :)

kayla amerie sounds like a pornstar stage name. candence makes me think of dj tanner from full house. sorry.
i don't think it's a good idea to decide your future children's personalities throught their names. you should pick names that are meaningful to your and your spouse. there's nothing wrong with using relatives names--or combinations of relatives names--it's a great compliment to the relative.
update: oh, ok. oops. hmm, for selena amerie = latina and korean/black singer? james cadence sounds neat...like it could be a movie name.
well, ultimately your babies' names are up to you and your spouse. but i always think people that name their kids "normal" names but go crazy on spelling are pretentious.

i like the girl name, but candence for a boy's middle sounds like candace (a girl's name). if you like the sound of jay with that sort of middle name, then perhaps these might work:
jay caden/caiden
jay cameron
jay carlin
jay carlton
jay carson
(web site is boy names that start with "ca..."
your rationale is just fine! best wishes!!
