Well basically anything from home that you'll want to have with you during your hospital stay. Clothes for you and the baby to wear home, some comfy socks, nursing bra, maybe a robe, nursing pillow, pads, small snacks (mostly for dad), toothpaste, shampoo, ect. Just think as if you're packing for a weekend trip, only you are adding the baby things in addition to your personal stuff. If you happen to not have your bag ready when the time comes, it's not the end of the world though. You can always send someone for it. Just make sure whatever you do, DON'T pack thong underwear! You would think this is common sense to most people, but I about died when my friend asked me to grab her a pair of socks out of her bag, just hours after she had given birth, and what to my suprise did I find in there? You guessed it, thong underwear! I'll never let her live that one down!

Listen sweetie I over packed by going off of what those lists in the baby magazines with my daughter. I would say to pack the things that will make you comfortable while in a hospital. Now every hospital system is different but I didn't have to have any major paperwork with me because they already had my insurance info and doctor records.
I would say bring an open front nightgown if you plan to breastfeed, maybe your own pillow and blanket, your robe and slippers if you decide to walk around, maybe a little radio with your favorite music/ipod/mp3 player, some clothes with elastic in the waist, definitely clothes for the baby to come home in, some kind of water shoe to take a shower in, maybe your own washcloth (b/c I hate washing with white washclothes), and toothpaste, toothbrush, brush and comb, face scrub....and whatever else you think you need.
Good luck and Congrats!!!

Change of clothes for you.
Change of clothes for Father.
Birth plan with space for writing down when you time contractions.
Possibly a stop watch.
Sucker...they won't let you eat anything in labor.
Massaging type things like tennis balls or birthing ball.
Babies coming home outfit.
They should give you diapers and goodies for baby at hospital but for driving home...I would say extra blanket if it's going to be cool.
Pacifier
Magazines for boredom
camera/s
address book for calling relatives
phone card...many hospitals won't let you call out long distance.
Install carseat BEFORE you go to hospital or else it could make for some clumsy embarrassing moments when you leave hospital.
pictures of children waiting at home or with relatives.
LOTS of patience and a good sense of humour.

Just a few items I could think of off the top of my head.

Bring a change of baby clothes, for which the baby is going to wear when ready to come home, outfit depending on the weather, little hat, booties, pacifier, you won't need any food or diapers since you should be going home right away. Bring a pair of slippers or whatever is comfortable for your feet, so you can walk to & from the nursery (you'll have to wear something on your feet outside your room). You don't have to wear those ugly uncomfortable hospital gown after you're in recovery room, bring a nightie, or whatever you wear at home that's comfortable, bring clothes you're going to wear leaving the hospital, you can bring your own toiletries, you'll probably want to take a shower before you get home & hospital towels & toiletries suck. Bring something to do while you don't have the baby in your room, like a book, music, puzzles, newspaper, video games, a laptop, bring a camera and of course bring a car seat, they won't let the baby go home without one. You don't need a wardrobe, you'll only be there for 2 days. And you don't really have to pack untill your last month.

Things that will help you get comfortable in labor / and especially things that you want to have afterwards!

Hospital admission papers
Camera / Videocamera
Spare change / cash
First outfit
Hairbrush / Makeup / slippers / toiletries
Snacks / water bottle
Outfit for mom to go home in

Just some ideas, but I'm sure your hospital/birthing class will give you a more complete list if you ask.

Comfy clothes for after the delivery, and going home in, camera (we forgot ours) clothes the bring the baby home in, any snacks you might want for after the delivery, (they won't let you eat during the delivery, and hospital food maybe getting better, but it isn't great.) List of phone numbers to call (if you don't have a cell phone) Cell phone charger (if you have a cell phone). Good luck! Don't forget to put the babies car seat in the car.
