Who knows? Some reasons may be:
penis envy
fear of not measuring up
immaturity
lack of sexual knowledge
not realizing that it isn't a matter of size, if you don't know how to use it properly, your partner won't be happy
worrying that someone else has more
lack of self-esteem
a not-so-subtle method of bragging (notice how many give their measurement)
There are many,many more possible reasons but those are a start. Let's be honest, any search would tell them the "average" size so the need to ask it here is prompted by other motives.
