Would it be hard for you to give up something?

During the depression the rich got richer and they poor stayed poor, but the middle class became poor. The poor didn't have much problem adjusting because their lifesyle remained the same. However, the middle class struggled a bit giving up extra to try to survive. My grandmothers family had to temporly had to split up to survive. The children went to Texas and Stayed with an aunt, dad tried to keep the farm running in Oklahoma and Mom went to work in Kansas City. Do you think todays society would cope as well or do you think we are even more spoiled and selfish today's age?

americans are the best at rallying when there is a disaster or war. but something like a depression, something that only hits an americans wallet......their spoiled, selfish greedy nature would come out. they could never live without their precious cellphones, ipods or blackberrys, sorry losers.....

I think of today's society goes for materialistic pleasures like very giant TV screen, more big sub-woofer, any advanced little gadgets(Ipod) computers which gets more sophisticated,etc.... everthing you see in the commercials that you don't have will try to get one,Keeping up with Jones is the norm,that means we are bit getting greedy, & spoiled i guess as long as you can afford it. During depression everybody is in the same status so we are just contented of what we've got at that time.

I don't think many of us would cope too well in the given situation. I have to admit I probably would end up clinging to all my piles of "stuff"-which we have quite a lot of in today's age. As far as family being split up, that would really hurt. I'm not sure how people managed during the depression Oo;

Agree!..When the moment come for survival nature takes its course.
Not only you or me, we do worry of such event occur. But among the people in the society surely there are good samaritans. You can never know even some of our relatives, especially, is there at the front door to welcome us. Be a good spirit and resume the better for all to live in harmony.

Americans are good at pulling together. when it comes down to it and people must step up to the plate, from what I see, people generally pull together.
