Why would anyone want a daughter when they could have a son instead?

I learned in college that they cost as much as 30% more to raise than sons and a poll in my Psych textbook said that in a pool of 2000 parent couples of adult children prefered sons at 89% ! ! ! Statistically that is HUGE, more than a landslide. Having a daughter also increases chance for divorce. Daughters can get pregnant and are extremely emotional, too much DRAMA !
Maybe this explains why doweries are so common in other countries. Sons bring wealth, girls take it!

For those who feel inclined to insult rather than answer the question, you can read my profile. I am married and have a son, thank you GOD ! I just don't want to risk having a daughter. What are they really good for ? I have sisters and they are worthless trouble makers and only call me or my parents when they want something, I.E. $money$. If you are saying it is good to have girls because they can have children then I would rather have a son and let him make the grandkids with someone elses daughter, let them pay the 30% more to raise her and make the late night runs to the store to get tampons and listen to the emotional ramblings etc etc etc !

Truth be told; if I do have a daughter she will be very attractive, as everyone in my family line is-blond and blue eyes ooh yea- and have no need or desire to be a feminist aka unattractive woman at war with attractive women !

Sadly, though the questioner may be joking (I sure hope he is), I think there are people who really think this way. I hear people in China use abortion this way so that there are 20% more boys than girls.

The last time I checked we are not some single cell ameba that can just split in 2 and create another life or some single-celled reproductive body that sends out spores into the atmosphere to reproduce. There needs to be a male and female for reproduction to occur. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt of you knowing this because you do have a son.

As for the drama comment, I work with paramedics, firefighters, and police officers all day long and have been doing it for 12 years. 80 to 90% of them are men and they are just as dramatic as women are. When you lie and say that you are moving to another state because you have a job when the real reason is that you’re to much of a wimp to tell the truth that you want to break up you are creating drama. When you date not 2 but 6 different women at the same time and through some weird cosmic twist they meet each other while they are waiting in the lobby of a car dealership that causes drama. Especially when all a guy has to do is be honest and say I am dating other people.

The comment that women are parasites I know far too many men that go from one girl to the next just so they have a place to live and a car to use. When they get bored or they find another women who has a better place and or better car they breakup move on to use the other woman. Again causing drama.

Girls may cost more to raise but our society has hammer into our heads that if we are not drop dead gorgeous we will never catch a man, if we are to independent we will be unapproachable, if we are opinionated we are know-it-alls, and if we are business savvy career driven women who take no prisoners we are _itches. The beauty industry is a multi billion-dollar industry because a woman have to have at least one thing that they can be proud of (I may not be smart but I am drop dead gorgeous, I may not have a beautiful face but I have a body to die for). Say what you want but do not tell me that you would ever date a plain, boring, ugly fat woman.

Your argument is skewed at best and your rational is solely based on your experiences. There are good for nothings on both sides of the fence. An enlightened person would have recognized that and not have such a linear view on life.

Where do you get this junk? There are more to a daughters than looks. Just because an offspring is male won't gaurantee t he won't be a handful. For one it's the boys who are the school shooters. Those males can't hold their tempers. Sure there are girl gangs now.
If the son has a serious disability he'll be a pretty penny, now won't he? He may be just a lot a of trouble.
You just can't say a son is better. Even if the son is cheaper finacially doesn't mean he won't be expensive emotionally.
My half-brother is a child molester whereas my sister and I did none of that. I've got male cousins who sold and took drugs as well. What do you have to say about that?

Why would anyone want a son when they could have a daughter as well? Each has their equal value, and without either of them our species will become extinct. As well, it takes sons to make daughters pregnant. It is important for you to realize that the contributor of the sperm is legally responsible for any progeny produced with the female. The status of males in our society is slowly diminishing because society is beginning to understand the importance of parity involved in the assessment of gender value. So, please, get your head out of the bucket, and try to understand that your statement is grossly subjective.

I have 3 sons aged 8, 6 and 3 and they are costing me a fortune because of all the food that they eat and when they're teens it will be even more expensive. Also, they tend to not look after their belongings despite the warnings they get from both their father and myself, so that ends up costing alot of money.
All in all, I do love my sons dearly, but if I had daughters instead I wouldn't resort to blaming a particular gender because of potential money costs or the potential for divorce.
Whatever gender child someone brings into the world should be cherished regardless, but thank you for the information.

It sounds like you've dealt with the wrong kind of women...no matter if they are your sisters or not. Not all women chase money, but then it's not wrong if a woman hopes to meet a man who is financially stable. Who wants to support a man the rest of their life, and then their children..who will probably be all boys who will follow their fathers footsteps and be financially inadequate.

1. Your first source was based on information from a fricking investment firm, which might as well be an insurance company. Of course they're preoccupied with money and economic risk management. Also according to insurance companies, people who own red cars drive more recklessly. Insurance companies and investment firms don't give a ***** about human beings.

3. Just because there is a correlation between divorce and the number of daughters a family has (which sounds like bullcrap to me anyway) does not mean the daughters CAUSE the divorce. Indeed, I would guess that hardly ANY divorces are directly *caused* by a child of either gender.

Why would anyone want a son when she could have a daughter? They are cuter, less trouble, and eat a whole lot less. They drive more carefully, more of them go to college, and they usually WANT to move out of the house. Sons can get other people's daughters pregnant. Sons fight a lot. Boo.
