Avast! does not provide internet security solution (anti-virus, antispyware, firewall all-in-one), but it's a much better anti-virus than Norton. So, if you are looking for an anti-virus choose Avast!, but if you are looking for an internet security suite, go for Norton or any other product.

I have Avast, and it is a suite with Aunti Valrus and can take care of spyware and malware. Run its complete scan once a month or a week and it will clear out suspicious stuff of all kinds.

I like Comodo Firewall another Free to Home Users tool that has given me a great deal of fun finding out what sneaks are being installed even by our good friends at ??????

Please go with Avast as Nortons is a hugh resource hog and never finds anything. If you ever decide to remove Nortons from your pc, you will be left with 375 plus fragments glued to all of your files and registry. You will pay hell trying to remove these fragments. Plus they cause conflict with your system.

Download the free Avast for home personal use. Excellent free program with background scanner and updates almost every hour on the hour.

Both the same, actually most anti virus are the same for the definitions are shared between most companies, having said that antivirus programs like Norton's are very resource hungry, that's the reason people go for lighter programs like Avast and AVG, same effectiveness with half the baggage, i get programs/softwares from most companies for free to use and evaluate, but i use AVG 7 for my personal use.........

It is not advisable to have more than two antivirus softwares in one computer. This will cause conflict with each other. If both antivirus softwares detects the same virus via realtime scanning or heuristics, it will cause the computer to freeze. If you want to scan your computer with Norton, you have to uninstall Avast.

Norton is better at security, but Avast is free.
