no it does not have to bounce....u can run down to the net and hit it before it bounces also...it gives you more momentum.....when you hit the ball before it bounces its called a "volley shot"...but when playing a volley, you have to be sure that u get back to your line otherwise after you volley it the other player can just lob the ball over your head and it will be difficult for u to get back and hit it..so after volleying, get back to your line!

No. If the ball is hit in the air before it is allowed to bounce once on your side of he court, that shot is called a "volley" and is a legal shot in tennis during any point after the receiver returns the serve. However, a volley is never legal when returning a serve; the serve must be allowed to bounce in the service box before it can be determined to be "good" and returned to continue the point.

You may hit the ball before it bounces after the initial service return. The only requirements are that:
- It must be on your side of the net
- An opponent must have been the last player to hit the ball (no hitting it twice)
- You realize it may have sailed out of bounds if you didn't hit it.

No, after the serve is returned (after the bounce) the ball can be hit before it bounces. Hitting it this way often gives the player a big more control b/c after the ball bounces is when alot of the spin occurs.

No, it can be played out of the air. Many players charge the net and try to volley past their opponent. However, if you're near the baseline, you may want to let the ball land rather than return a shot that would have been out.
