I went off birth control in Feb. I had a normal cycle the first month after stopping. The next Cycle was normal but a week late. Then the third cycle was normal but 2 or 3 day late. About a week after i stoped the third cycle I had a short 2 day cycle (normal flow for me). When it was time for my forth cycle I had a very light cycle (almost spotting) and it was dark brown. Being that light and dark are unusuale for me.

I am wanting to see if next month will be normal. I was put on the pill because of irregularity caused by being on the shot for 3 years. I don't want to take anymore hormones because I feel now they are causing more problems. I stopped taking the pill to be able to see if I will have problems getting pregnant after my fiance and I marry next year.

I am not sure wether to call the doc and make an apointment now or wait till next month when I am supposed to go in for my yearly exam.

The brown menstration is not what I consider normal by any means. Even when I was haveing a cycle every other week before going on the pill and for the year and a half I took the pill it has always been red. If it was brown it would turn that color towards the end of the cycle (like the last day). I have neve had a whole cycle be brown.

It seems normal, if you were irregular before, you may still be or it might just be talking a while for you to get regular off the pill. Some women never get regular. Brown is normal for lite, when the flow is lite it gives the blood more time to oxidize to brown. It might take you a while to get regular and pregnant but I read a study sorry don't remember where that in some cases woman who were on birth control before trying for a baby got pregnant faster on average then women who were not.

The last contraceptive I had was the depo shot, I didn't have a period for a year after I had stopped taking it. The brown spotting is a cleansing period, its called "old blood" but its actually normal. Just wait it through drink plenty of water, eat fresh fruits & veggies. I think you will be fine and will be able to have children.

We are in the same boat. I have been off my pill since Oct. I always had reg periods, but however I was having medical problems ex. ovarian cysts that would rupture and cause me extreme pain, migraine headache and leg cramps. The irregularities according to my OB is your body getting all the BC hormones out of your body, it may take up to a year from you period to be or close to normal.

It takes a while for your body to rid itself of the artificial hormones you were given & normalize. I would keep a journal & record your cycle & any unusual symptoms, like you've been doing. Cycles do have a tendency to fluctuate as does yours. If your still concerned, call the advice nurse & see if they need you to come in early. Your medical team would know better about what's going on with your body, since they are the ones, who have been treating you.

It is normal for periods to be irregular after stopping the pill, but if you are worried you should talk to your doctor she is your best resource of info.
