I'm NOT saying I don't think they're unimportant, or they're not going extinct, I just don't understand how it threatens us. Yes, I do know they help flowers mate!

It's not just flowers.

Bees are required to pollinate almost ALL plants. Every plant that produces a fruit, (or vegetable, or grain) first produces a flower of some kind and must be pollinated to fruit.

Without bees we have no apples, tomatoes, wheat, rice, barley, oats, cucumbers, peaches, apricots, broccoli, carrots, beans, peas, corn, etc., etc., etc.

If it comes from plants, it needs bees.

Life is resilient, and if all of the bees become extinct, nature WILL find a different way of pollinating these plants, but most of mankind will likely starve to death in the interim.

It will be a nasty, messy way to go, because imagine what people will do to get food when they are starving.

This is especially upsetting because it is thought that it is agrochemicals that are killing them, and it may be too late even if we stop using them now, to prevent the bees from dying out, because they don't break down as readily as we thought they would.

Without bees to pollinate fruits and vegetables, our food supply dwindles quite a bit. They have helped spread some plants to better, hardier environments, (like clover and mint) and of course there is the honey and beeswax they produce.
Without them, we will lose a lot of plants, and that will drive up the prices of feed, resulting in the slaughter of animals the farmers can't afford to keep, (which will eventually end in the lack of meat)and the dairy farmers thinning their herds (which lessens milk and cheese production). It's amazing sometimes to think about how one little aspect of nature can unbalance all the rest.
