I have a check from a financial institute, where can I cash it? The bank the check belongs to does not exist in the state where I live and I do not have a bank account myself, so where can I cash it?

Also, at this moment I am in the middle of nowhere(the mountains of NC) so there are not many places around.

Can I take it to any bank?

no you need to have someone with a checking account do it, or maybe a grocery store. but for the most part you can't just take a check into any ole bank

Be aware, there are many bank check fraud cases around the country.
If the check you have is from a financial institute you have no association with, it may be fraudulent. You can be held liable to repay the bank what it's worth if it is a scam.
If your sure the check is good for services you have provided or investments that you have made, there are check cashing places other than banks who will cash it for a fee or percentage. Click the link below for information related to the services availible in NC for check cashing.

I would think you could take it to any bank you have an account with. If the check ends up being bad (if the financial institute does not have the funds necessary to cover it), then your bank should take steps to make them pay the amount of the check to them.

Sign the back and mail it to me, I will cash it for ya!
Just joking, most banks will not cash a check from another bank for you unless you have an account with them.
Good luck!

You may want to apply for automatic bank deposit for future deposits. As for this one particular check, you may want to go to the nearest bank and ask them.

Try a check cashing place such as moneytree.
