Gaydar is just pattern recognition, and being aware of certain things in people. I use something similar (but looking at different traits) to guess if a person is Chinese or Korean, for example (having been around plenty of Chinese and Koreans).
You won't be right 100% of the time, but the more gay people you encounter, the better you are at knowing what the clues are. So, you would be born with no gaydar.
And often the clues are not really hidden. They are sort of like a secret code to signal to other gay people.

Gaydar definitely exists. It is a matter of knowing what to look for in a person as to if they are gay or not. Of course, there are some rare cases that dont fit, but even the most straight acting gay guy can be picked out with professional gaydar.

Gaydar is just a mechanism that people use to justify stereotyping. People say they can identify who is gay by using their 'gaydar' - an intuitive ability to determine whether another person is gay.
However, they're really only picking out certain traits commonly exhibited by homosexuals and automatically stereotyping them into that category. 'Gaydar' doesn't work for masculine gay men (gay men who don't exhibit stereotypical gay characteristics) or metrosexuals (straight men who are mistaken for gay men because of their sense of fashion and personal aesthetics).

I'm lesbian and have absolutely no gaydar. My partner on the other hand has a great gaydar. Who knows, some people are more intuitive than others.

No disrespect to other gay people but I think gaydar is like a baboon in a boarding house. Just an ugly roomer.

gaydar is a weird raydar some of us have.
we just *know* who's gay and who's not. maybe because we can read into their manorisms or the way they stand or talk, but we *know*.
it's not just gay people who have it and it's not just straight people who have it.
you probably just need to re-tune your gaydar. i'm sure it works. when you meet new people, pay attention to how they interact with the same sex and with the opposite sex. then look how their dressed, how they stand and how they talk. even how they move their hands and how they wear their hair.
you probably can already tell,...your just not listening to your first thought about people. that's your gaydar.
i think.

Gaydar is about being in tune with someone else's feelings. It really means that instead of debating the issue as whether someone is attracted to you or not, you intuitively know. It is commonly associated with being 'gay', but personally I think anyone can have it if they tune themselves in to it.
