No. As viruses are written for a specific OS, a Windows virus cannot attack a Mac OS.

Now, about Mac running Windows - it runs Windows as it would run any other Mac application. So, if a virus cannot launch itself under Windows since it is a Windows application, and needs to be launched separately from OS X. Even if a virus is launched as a Windows application, it cannot harm your system since the virus's programming would be such to attack a Windows system.

If your Mac is running windows, then technically it isn't a Mac. A Mac runs Mac OS. They belong to each other. But indeed, running windows, you share the same risks as other Windows computers. There is however a simple solution. Never go online or read your emails on Windows, but just on Mac OS. If you run Windows in a virtual machine then you should pretty much be able to keep the risk in the windows part of your computer.
Most of the Virusses do attack your Windows installation by modifying or deleying important system files or parts as the registry, boot up files etc. This wouldn't harm the Mac allso.
A Windows Virus is not capable of Formating a Mac OS System either, bacause it uses a different format.
(Windows uses FAT(32) or NTFS and MAC uses HFS(+)

The fact that a Mac can't execute viruses doesn't say that it can't get any. The same virus emails do arrive also in our mailboxes. so we should take our responsibilities and take care that we don't help spreading them.

No. Windows virii won't affect the Mac OS nor it's hardware, they will affect the Windows OS that is installed on the Mac though. A Mac can get infected with a Windows virus but won't be affected by it i.e. a Windows user sends a Mac user an e-mail that has a virus. The Mac user opens the e-mail but doesn't know it's infected if he/she doesn't have AV software installed and because the virus has no effect on the Mac. The Mac user then sends it on to a Windows user where they will be infected and if their AV doesn't have a definition of it, the Windows OS will be affected.
I hope this explanation is understandable to you.
