What does this statement mean? How would you explain it to someone .... I don't get some of the vocab in it?

1. “The white man… unreservedly committed to the cause of liberating the black man in American society rather than integrating the black man into society.”

2. “He contended that if the leaders of the established civil rights organizations persisted, the social struggle would end in the bloodshed because he was certain the white man would never concede full integration.”
He believed that the theories of passive resistance used by Ghandi and Martin Luther King were exhausted and advocated civil and equal rights by any means necessary to accomplish equality.

I still don't get how he was different from MLK and Ghandi?

this is way over my head, but I know Ghandi and ML King were supportive of peaceful measures to end the social struggles of the black race in the U.S.

Who is 'he' in statement #2? Apparently 'he' was supportive of ANY measures [including violence] to attain equality.

I am not quite sure what you are comparing, but what the sentences basically say is that in reality the white man liberated the black men but did not integrate them in society. This is quite true, once the Emancipation Proclamation was passed, many slaves were granted freedom, but didn't know the meaning to it. All they had was the clothes they were wearing, and knew how to farm. That's why the hardest period in slavery was after liberation. They were affected by racism and many other things. The second sentence clearly states that the struggle for integration still exists, you are free but that does not mean you are equal. Like it says the civil rights movement still exists and the movement could have ended in complete war because it was obvious that the white man would not accept the black men.
Well these sentences are subjective, that means what you think is correct, all opinions are valid.
Good luck!!!

The first sentence means white america freed the slaves, but never accepted them as equals into their society.

The second he explains that because white america would never accept black people as equals that the peaceful efforts put forth by MLK and Ghandi would never accomplish equality and that the only way to get what was deserved was by any means necessary. You gotta fight for your rights not march and sing for them.
