I was born and spent 23 years in Mumbai and then moved to Bangalore for job - spent another 5 years there. I have also spent time in Hyderabad and Pune, so below is my opinion.
Mumbai - Fast and Furious. City of dreams (and failures). Good roads, transportation and multi-cultural. Little green or open spaces. Get your bang for your real-estate buck. High paying but fewer IT jobs.
Bangalore - Laid back/boring depending on your outlook. City of power blackouts. Public transport has a long way to go. Culture is a problem unless you belong to one of the 4 southie states. Good green and open spaces. Get very little for your buck in real estate. City surviving on IT bubble - good job opportunities for IT folks.
