Whew! It's not nearly as traumatic as I first understood your question... by "losing," I thought you meant someone had died.
If everyone's alive, and it's just a friendship thing, I'm gonna say that your friend is going to experience the classic broken heart. But, he'll learn to move on... maybe with your help... and if he is faithful to his side of the friendship, then maybe a few years down the road or so, maybe the girl will relent and agree to being just friends again, at least.

well it all depend his view of things if he is a positive kind of guy then its not as bad but if he is thinking about it all the time he might be traumatic just don't bring her up and take him to parties to meet new ppl or if he wants to stay home then stay with him just be a good friend to him and maybe he will b ok

yea it could be traumatic for him but he should really think that she must not care for him to an extreme because if she did should would never let her current bf tell her not to talk to him soo i really hope he can get over her because shes not worth it
the time span for this seems kinda short

ok well if her new bf is telling her not to be best friends with someone just because hes a guy, theres something wrong with him. she shouldnt be dating him if hes telling her not to be friends with someone. i have been in that situation and i broke up with the guy bc he told me to stop being friends with one of my best guy friends. its just not worth the time on those boys

Very traumatic. you should never depend on one person to meet all of your emotional needs. It's unfair to them.
