If there are a lot then get a bag of broad leaf weed killer and spread it on as per its directions.
If there are not a lot of them get that tool that looks like a screwdriver with a sharpened double point. Poke it into the ground at the root to sever it at the bottom. Then just pull the severed part out of the ground. It is great exercise if you don't have a yeard full.

There is always chemical treatment, but do you really want to do that? Dandelions are basically a parasite to a lawn. The best way to fight off this parasite is to make your lawn as healthy as possible. Your grass will naturally fight any weed off if it is in good shape.
The most basic things you can do to increase your lawns health is to aerate and then top dress with some type of organic matter (humus, compost, etc.) Don't forget to water your lawn appropriately for your type of grass and geographic area.
If you wanted to get more detailed you could take soil samples from around your yard and send it to a lab for testing. They would be able to give you a better idea of what you might want to add to your lawns soil to enhance your turf.

Seriously, the easiest way is to add a weed and feed fertilizer. Be sure to use something from a brand name that you have heard of. I, personally, really like the Scotts brand. It works quite well for me. The other tips: spread fertilizer when the grass/weeds are damp (after morning dew works well), watch the weather forcast! Spread the fertilizer on a cool and cloudy but non-rainy day. If it rains too soon after you fertilize the weeds will not get the full effect.

jim g,took the words right out of my mouth,a chemical treatment(weed and feed or weed killer)is not the answer to the problem, it only treats the weeds not your lawn, get your lawn healthy and like a person with an healthy immune system it will take care of its self.the three most important things are proper watering for your type of grass/zone that your live in,proper feeding of your lawn, and one of the most overlooked is mowing your lawn at the correct height which can differ greatly depending on species of grass, local conditions.so to sum the answer up a healthy lawn will keep the dandelions out,it will also save you money you wont spend on chemicals

Any brand of Weed & Feed. Apply with a spreader, If they are really thick you may have to apply more than once. If your neighbors have them & don't treat their lawns you may have to reapply on a monthly basis or several times a year depending on where you live & how long your growing season is.
