So I tried to roll back my video driver on XP, computer restarted all funky looking (only 8 colors). I don't know what I pressed, but when the computer automatically restarted, nothing comes up. I've tried to reboot in safe mode, a long list of drivers come up, and then nothing...computer just sits with that list. I tried to do a reboot to the last time the system worked correctly, and nothing but a black screen. Now I don't want to do a clean install, because I need to retrieve files from the computer, so how can I get my system to boot up?

There is a program called Bart PE. It is a stand alone Windows environment that boots from cd. If you search Google for this program you can find it and burn it to a cd and boot to it from startup.
When you boot to Bart PE you need to run cmd and ensure that the root is set to C:\windows and then type \system32\restore\rstrui.exe This is the Windows restore console, you can now restore your computer to an earlier date without loosing your files.
If you can boot Windows with a command prompt you can do this without the Bart PE cd.
Good luck!

I've been boycotting microsoft for a while now, so I don't really have any good advice for your problem. What I suggest is obtaining a live linux CD from somewhere (free at shipit.ubuntu.com) and try it out. If it doesn't boot, you probably need a new video card. If you like it, you wan install it free, use it for free, and have the satisfaction that you probably wont ever have that problem again. If you don't, eject the CD and reboot with no consequences. Good luck!

check your bios when the energy star screen comes up and see if your drivers are listed if not then you have to insirt the disk for every single driver on your computer and reinstall them
your computer cant have any info retrieved unless you take hdd c out and put it in another computer then retrieve the files

Just boot from the OS cd and tell it to install at the first prompt, at the second use the R repair option. This normally works for driver errors. Then re- install the driver.

Try safe mode again, this time let it sit for say 30 mins, sometime drivers under safe mode can hang for a while, if this doesnt work, your best bet is a computer shop if the info on it is important.
