Liberalism is an ideology based on individual liberty, and many modern liberals believe that the purpose of government is to protect these liberties. Socialism, on the other hand, refers to a spectrum of doctrines that support a system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the government. Cons greatly enjoy accusing all liberals of being socialists, but that only shows how stupid most conservatives are.

What you are calling liberalism is classic liberalism. What is called liberalism today is socialism.

Classic liberalism does not promote collectivist education, or government learning centers, that is a socialist concept.

Classic liberalism does not support the suspension of the first amendment such as the Fairness Doctrine is trying to do, that is a socialist concept.

Classic liberalism does not support social welfare programs, it supports personal responsibility, social welfare programs including social security are socialism.

So really you are sort of spewing propaganda in order to make your socialism look more respectable. Now there are useful idiots and you may even be one who buy into these lies, but most AMericans know the real differences and people are seeing through it.

Today, liberalism as practiced by you and others like you is pretty much straight forward marxism, and the preponderance of what the democratic party puts forth as their agenda is straight marxism. Go read the Progressive Caucus website if you want a true definition of marxism/socialism

A rose by any other name still smells the same.

That you can't see the systematic decline of our nation due to socialists that call themselves democratic progressives is frightening!

In order to implement the liberal ideals, socialism must be put into practice.

Look at the school system, for instance. Do you see the dumbing down of our smart children, in order to pander to the the lowest intelligence, thereby bringing one group up to medium and one group down to medium?

How about our kids playing sports. Competition is being removed from the equation, because for someone to win, someone else must lose. And "losing" will hurt someones feelings. Never-mind that losing might also prompt a person or team to try harder . . . can't have that! They must feel that they are "perfect" just as they are!

When you indoctrinate children in the ideals that everything in life is or should be "fair," what else is that than socialism at work.

Because it won't stop, it carries over into adulthood.

Ever heard of public domain? Governments are taking property for the "benefit" of their communities, (parks, malls).

The Government is taking money from the masses to distribute to the poor. Liberals want to take more, to give more.

Oh yes, I just heard Hillary on the news talking about government regulation of business. So what does that mean to you? It says to me that the government wants to step into our free-enterprise system and take over business. Getting rid of competition and growth . . . then spreading the "wealth" around to all those who would otherwise have to work?

I take great offense at that.

Yes, many conservatives do realize the difference between socialism and liberalism. No, conservatives are not stupid.

Often times, the doctrines of socialism and liberalism collide. Thus, those who only believe the pundits and don't actually check their sources confuse the two.

Next time, don't be a jerk and call conservatives stupid. I'm a conservative. I consider myself to be an intelligent person.

Check your sources, by the way- Bush's grades at Yale were superior to Kerry's. Al Gore got Cs and Ds in college.

In my e book, i think of which you have 2 levels of liberalism; (a million) A socialist. (2) A marxist. you're saying which you think that socialism could be constrained to training, wellness care, and offering common desires alongside with housing and nutrition for those in want. i could ask you this; the place does the midsection class slot in? Who will pay for many folk of this? i might say which you're a marxist. it is the midsection class which will pay for many folk of each and everything! regrettably, each and every time I hear of the liberals say they're going to do something, it rather is taxing the prosperous, spreading the wealth to the unfavourable. the place does the midsection class slot in?! In places like China, and Cuba, you have the "Haves" and the Have nots!" upload to the actuality that for the duration of maximum 0.33 international international locations, you have not have been given a center class! the place does the midsection class slot in with you? Liberals have tendency to ignore related to the midsection class.

Yea we understand. If you want to live like that that's cool but don't tell me how to live or think or how I think and don't group me in with the Republican far right just like the Democrat far left. Both of those groups want to control how people think and live. I am a conservative I do not belong to any party affiliate, I vote for who I think is the best for the job in my opinion and if I no one is running who is qualified for the job I don't vote for anyone for that position. Each of us currently have the right to believe in what we want, do what we want, go where we want as long as we harm no one and it's within the laws and that's why I vote. Both sides of politics have different layers of voters just like society has upper class, middle class and lower class and each of those groups have groups within them so please understand that it's not conservatives that are tagging you it's a faction within the republican party.

No, they don't. If they really read the words the founding fathers put down on paper, they would understand that liberty & socialism are very different, but these people listen to Fox News, Rush, etc and get a very slanted view of our world. (It's the same as the Bible-Thumpers who only know a few verses from the Bible fed to them by the fundamentalest "Christians".)
